of propereties for inscription on World Heritage List:
I have the
honour to inform you that the bureau of the World Heritage Commitee,at
is twenty-fourth session held at UNESCO 11cadquarters in Paris, from 26 june to 1 july 2000, examined the
nomination of properties for inscription on the World Heritage
List. Please find hereafter the recommendations and observations
of the Bureau regarding the following propeety, as included in
the draft report of the session of the Bureau:
the Bureau that received additional information from the State
Party in answer to questions the definition of buffer zones and
standards of control within these areas, as well as on the legar
protection of all churches. It was of the opinion that it could
now recommend inscription of the property. Considering this new
information the Bureau recommended that these properties
be inscribed on the Wold Heritage List on the basis of
criteria ii and iii:
ii The churches of Chiloè are outstanding examples
of the successful fision of
European and indigenous
cultural traditons to produce a unique form of wooden architure.
iii The mestizo culture resulting from Jesuit missionary
activities in the 17th and 18th centuries
has survived intact in the Chiloé archipielago,
and achieves its highest expression in the outstanding
decided that the detailed comments in the report of the
ICOMOS expert mission should be made available to the State Party.
